Sixth Edition

 

Deadline for the subscription: june 15th, 2014.

Exhibitions of all the selected works: Ferrara, Palazzo della Racchetta from July, the 26th to August, the 8th, during the Ferrara Art Festival.

 

 

Art. 1 – OBJECTIVES

 

The contest has the aim to select and promote contemporary artists at an international level which stand out for the originality and quality of their works.

The competition consists in the realization of several exhibition events (exhibition of the selected artists in Ferrara and the exhibition of the winners of the of three main awards in Milan) and the awarding of six awards (three main awards and three award praises).

 

The exhibition of all the selected works for the competition's finals will take place in Ferrara, Palazzo della Racchetta, via Vaspergolo 4/6/6a, from July, the 26th to August, the 8th, during the Ferrara Art Festival, catalogue edited by Giorgio Mondadori.

The presantation of the awards will take place in Ferrara, Palazzo della Racchetta, on july, sunday 27th, at 4 p.m.

 

The personal exhibitions of the winners of the single awards (Vedova, Chagall and Man Ray Prizes) will take place at Spazio E, Milan, Alzaia Naviglio Grande 4, within 12/31/2015 in a period still to be identified.

To every winner will be assigned a curator who will take charge of the selection of works, of the critical texts and of the installing.

 

 

Art. 2 – CATEGORIES

 

PAINTING

It includes works to be hung on a wall made with any technique, material and on any kind of back-up.

The format limit is cm 100x100.

 

GRAPHICS

It includes works on paper made through drawing or traditional techniques of engraving.

The format limit is cm 100x100.

 

SCULPTURE AND INSTALLATIONS

It includes works in the round made with any material.

The format limit for the sculptures is cm 60x60x120.

For the installations the limit occupation, at the ground, is cm 200x200.

The artists that present installations must personally install the work, agreeing with the organization on terms and modalities.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

It includes works to be hung on a wall made by traditional and/or digital photo technique.

The format limit is cm 100x100.

 

 

Art. 3 – TERMS AND MODALITIES OF PARTECIPATION

 

The Contest is open to everybody without any distinction: beginners, emerging, and professionals of italian or foreign nationality, provided that they are operating or living in a Country of the European Community.

There are no limits of age or curriculum.

The subject is free. The deadline for the subscription is june 15th, 2014.

 

SUBSCRIPTION

Each artist, with the participation to the Contest, automatically accept its regulations. The subscription and the participation to the Contest's first phase is free. The first phase consists in forwarding by mail photos of works (and the other requested material) to be submitted to the panel's valutation.

The selected artists for the final phase (exhibition at the Palazzo della Racchetta and publication in a Mondadori catalogue) will be advised by the end of June and will be required to

pay the participation fee of € 70 (organization and administration fee) for the partecipation to one of the categories of the Contest.

It is anyway possible to partecipate to more than one category. For any further category, in case of selection, it will be necessary to pay an additional fee of € 35,00.

 

The participation fee to the exhibition of the finalists is due to be  be settled through BANK TRANFER on C/C n.30498 in the name of Ass. Cult. Zamenhof Art, Banca Popolare di Milano, ag. 17, IBAN IT 80 M 05584 01617 000000030498, Swift Code BPMIITMMXXX.

 

The participation fee to the exhibition of the finalists is not refundable.

MATERIAL TO BE SENT BY E-MAIL

For a better evaluation of the quality and poetics of the artists of the Contest, to partecipate you have to send uniquely by e-mail a minimum of 5 (five) and a maximum of 10 (ten) photographs of as many works for each category you intend to partecipate to.

 

The Panel will promptly communicate by the end of June if the artist has been selected for the finals and  in case of selection which is the work to be sent (or delivered) for the exhibition. The organization will indicate how and when.

 

For this reason the photographs must be necessarily of available works. The photographs of the works must be in jpg format and of high quality, without any reflection or deformation. The file names must specify:name and surname of the author, title, technique and back-up, dimensions, year of realization and price for a potential sale. The jpg files should be between 500 k and 2 MB.

 

The e-mail of the photo files must also contain the following data of the author:

1. name and surname,

2. birth year,

3. address,

4. telephone number.

 

The material must be sent by e-mail uniquely to the following address: premio.ilsegno@gmail.com.

 

 

SELECTION AND DISPATCHING OF THE WORK

The participants, if selected for the Finals, will be informed by e-mail about which of the works has been selected for the exhibition of the Contest.

This work has to arrive by july, 23th, to the following address: Palazzo della Racchetta, via Vaspergolo 6, 44121 Ferrara, Italy.

The packaging of the work will not be stored. We suggest to use bubble wrap and cardboard.

In case of a painting, a photograph or graphics, the work must be properly framed and/or equipped with hangers for the exhibition. Absolutely avoid glass frames.

 

During the exhibitions works will be put on sale at the price indicated by the author. In case of a sale the artist will reserve a 30% fee to the exhibition area.

 

 

RESTITUTION OF THE WORK

The sent work can be personally withdrawn (no courier) at Palazzo della Racchetta on August, 8th upon telephone agreement or it will be repacked and resent cash on delivery during the first week of September.

 

 

Art. 4 – AWARDS

 

A) Emilio Vedova Award for the best abstract work. The awards refers to abstract works in any genre (painting, sculpture or graphics), style or technique (e.g.: gestual, informal materic, geometric, colorfield painting, decollage, etc.). The award consists in a plaque and a free personal exhibition at Spazio E in Milan.

 

B) Marc Chagall Award for the best figurative work. The award refers to figurative works in any genre (painting, sculpture or graphics), in any style or technique. With ‘figurative’ we mean any work where you may recognize a figure or an image connected to a real subject, more or less stylized. The award consists in a plaque and a free personal exhibition at Spazio E in Milan.

 

C) Man Ray Award for the best photo or digital work. The award consists in a plaque and a free personal exhibition at Spazio E in Milan.

 

D) Jean Michel Basquiat Award Praise for under 30 artists. The award consists in a plaque.

 

E) Lucio Fontana Award Praise for the most innovative work. The award consists in a plaque.

 

F) Pablo Picasso Award Praise for the most versatile artist, who has been able to distinguish in at least three out from the four artistic categories (painting, sculpture, graphics and photogrphy). The award consists in a plaque.

 

The plaques of the various awards will be subsequently posted to the winners at the address indicated by the artist in the subscription e-mail or delivered in Milan during the winners' exhibitions.

 

 

Art. 5 – CATALOGUE

 

The selected works for the Finals will be published in the prestigious General Catalogue of Ferrara Art Festival, edited, promulgated and distributed by Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori.

This catalogue, of more than 600 pages, and containing photos and texts of the 24 exhibitions of the Festival, as well as the exhibition of the Il Segno, will be available from September at the sale price of € 60, but for the finalists who would like to purchase it in advance and at a reduced price it is possible to reserve it at the moment of the subscription by adding € 30 for each copy to the sum paid for the participation fee, specifying in the object that the sum includes the reservation of the catalogue.

The reserved catalogue may be sent back together with the work at the end of the exhibition.

If not reserved and previously paid the catalogue will be available from septemberat the sale price of € 60.
